About the event
The St. Patrick’s Day Pea Shoot Fest is a signature activity of Our Grateful Garden, bringing the transformative power of light and growth to individuals in addiction recovery. This initiative embodies our mission to apply Permaculture principles (Earth Care, People Care, Fair Share) in creative, life-changing ways. The project uses the life cycle of pea shoots grown in darkness as a profound metaphor for addiction and recovery. When denied light, the pea shoots stretch thin, develop bitterness, and remain pale and underdeveloped—reflecting the struggles of addiction. However, when brought into the light, the plants undergo a remarkable transformation. They turn green, develop sweetness, and thrive, mirroring the personal growth and recovery possible through love, care, and the "sunshine of the spirit."
